While working on the computer this evening I heard quite a few rumbles of thunder outside. I went to the back deck and could see dark clouds and lightning just overhead and quickly moving to the East. Knowing that the storm would probably drift near Denver, I decided to try and catch some lightning over the city. As I jumped onto I-70 the lightning strikes became stronger as did the rain. I decided to check out the normal areas near I-25 (Speer, 26th, 23rd, etc) but realized much of the action was happening to the north of the city. With the storm to the north I figured the best view would probably be near the Invesco Field parking area. After arriving at the parking area I waited a few minutes for the rain to stop and proceeded to set my gear up. While taking photos I noticed a few other cars out and to my surprise recognized my father’s work van stopped behind me at a stop sign. Knowing that my father didn’t recognize me in the darkness I gave him a call before he drove away. I guess we both had the same idea to capture the beautiful lightning storm. I do wish that I would’ve gotten more lightning strikes but most were obscured by the clouds and heavy rains. What a beautiful evening!
